Native Americans originally named this area Passawatami. Translated as “this is the place,” the name identified the area as the gathering place for their annual tribal Olympics. Early settlers and visitors were also drawn to the Glade Spring area as they enjoyed the healing waters of the Seven Springs, and relaxed in the beauty of this rural community with its rolling hills and peaceful environment. From the mineral springs and farmland, to unique clay deposits and nearby salt marshes, the area has provided natural resources to those seeking an active, creative, and sustainable quality of life. Today, Glade Spring remains a special and dynamic place with a rich history and bright future.
